Salem Express

At 1,105 gross tons and 100 meters long, the Salem Express was a standard large Middle Eastern ferry with two engines and dual shafts and propellers.
The Salem Express sank due to a tragic navigation error. On its way from Jeddah to Safaga, it hit the westernmost coral block of Hyndman Reef just eleven kilometers from port. The collision caused a 10-meter hole in the hull and ruptured the bow hatch, allowing water to flood in rapidly and sink the ship within minutes.
